Be Careful in CO If You Want To Be A Good Samaritan

I am an advocate and supporter of law enforcement. I think many times they are the unsung hero’s of what is defined as our “first responders”. I also admit that I probably give them the benefit of the doubt on a lot of high profile situations where they are being investigated for shootings, arrests, etc, but the following link makes me angry. Now I will say this, MOST law enforcement officers I have dealt with, (whether I am dealing with people I know personally or more importantly, when my dealings are because I did something stupid), are professional and courteous, but when it comes to the State Patrol’s around this country…..well let’s just say I don’t normally extend them the same respect and admiration. This story is indicative of why I don’t admire their handling of many situations.

Injured good Samaritan ticketed for jaywalking

Basically the Good Samaritan (Jim Moffett), who probably saved two elderly women’s lives because of the ignorance of another driver, received a jaywalking citation. JAYWALKING! JAYWALKING?!?!? It is amazing that he not only got the ticket, but that someone, after investigating this accident, actually had the THOUGHT that a ticket should be written. All I have to say to Trooper Ryan Sullivan is, SHAME ON YOU. Should Sullivan have taken the time, later on after some recuperation time, to tell Mr. Moffett the how’s and wherefore’s on parking a bus and allowing passengers to get off? Absolutely. Should he have written a ticket, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! It borders on moronic.

The police are the referee’s in our society. They have to make judgment calls day after day, hour by hour. Trust me, I don’t envy them and wouldn’t begin to imagine how difficult their job has to be, BUT the world is not black and white. Most law enforcement officers not only know that, but live it (grey areas) every day. This is a situation where all the stars aligned (negatively) and an accident occurred. Weather, parking where he did, driver driving carelessly, women possibly not paying attention and the like…. With that knowledge, Trooper Sullivan should have shown a little more intelligence and realized that Mr. Moffett decided to risk his own life to save two others. That’s not a ticket able offense, that’s heroic!!!

Theocracies….Who Needs ‘em?

I don’t normally comment on religious issues, as I already am towing the line on political discussion, but this most recent article coming out of Indonesia really annoyed me.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090126/ap_on_re_as/as_indonesia_yoga_ban  Looks like the ever tolerant and educated clerics in the Ulema Council have banned the use of Hindu rituals, like chanting, while doing yoga, stating concerns that it would corrupt their faith.  HUH?  (Side Note: the decision was made after hundreds of theological “experts” met at a weekend conference – EXPERTS?!?!?  That’s a decision that EXPERTS came up with?!?!?  Just saying….)  How weak in your faith do you have to be to take a yoga class, chant a bit and then walk out and say to yourself, “WOW, with all of that chanting and such, I’m going to completely throw all of my beliefs out the window and become a Hindu.”?

Now the good news to this idiotic ban is that it’s not “legally binding”.  Whew, I would hate to have to go in front of  judge (who probably marches to the beat of the Ulema Council’s drum) and defend myself against…..CHANTING.  It sounds sarcastic, but I am serious.  I actually would HATE to have to defend myself against such moronic accusations.  Sorry for the inflammatory wording, but to pass down this edict/fatwa tells me many things (of which I’m not going to comment on because it’s slightly more politically incorrect).

I’ve done yoga.  I never really got into the chanting or “spiritual” part of yoga, but if I did, you can be rest assured that my Christianity wouldn’t suffer.  I think I’m a little too smart and cemented in my faith to haphazardly jump off the Christianity bandwagon and start worshiping Vishnu.  Which leads me to my last point.  In the article, they touched on the fact that there are some Christian fundamentalists and secularists that are challenging the use of yoga in schools around the U.S..  Again I say, HUH?  They say the roots of yoga (Hindu) conflicts with Christian beliefs  So what?  Yoga classes, I would imagine, take place in a gym, with mats, while you are wearing a T-shirt and shorts; not in some church with a pastor handing out sermons and following a liturgy.  Bottom line is, people (all over the world) need to lighten up about things such as whether or not you chant during your yoga EXERCISE and worry about things that are important.  As Sgt Hulka told Psycho in the movie Stripes:  ”Lighten up Francis!”

Quick Hit

Since it’s the new year, I thought I’d change the theme up a bit and see how that works…..

Quick Hit – Denise Revels Robinson

The first thing I have to say to this is, GOOD RIDDANCE…..

http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/36179844.html

As far as I’m concerned the state is not doing enough to all of the responsible parties in this debacle.  I mean a poor THIRTEEN MONTH old child died, and all Robinson says is she wants a transfer?!?!?  AND La Causa response to this was to ”re-assign” the case worker and demote the supervisor?!?!?  Unacceptable, but par for the course when it comes to organizations that have to “report” to the government or ARE the government.  These are the organizations, and people, we want controlling our health care (amongst other things)????  Unbelievable!

Quick Hit

Is thought provoking commentary intelligent?  At first thought you might say “Yes, as long as it is carefully thought out and supported by facts (or the allusion thereof).”  Which leads me to a blog post I ran across – see attached – http://blogs.wauwatosanow.com/alienated_blogology/archive/2008/05/25/sunday-morning-magic-show.aspx  (those that are easily offended by anti-Christian/Catholic posts don’t open the attachment).  All I can say is “progressives”, as Mr. Kroll like to call himself, seem to be more about condescension than actually trying to educate or “move things forward”.  The worst part of people like Kroll is they believe they’re smarter, and more……oh, how do I put it….”enlightened” than the rest of us.  Uh Huh, right!  I can sum up in three words the type of person he is (and those of like mind) – small minded, bigots.

Thanksgiving

Hey everyone, I just wanted to take time out and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  This is a time to not only eat, watch football, and hang with family and friends, but more importantly a time to reflect on what you are truly “thankful” for.  Enjoy….and God Bless!

First Weblog – Intro

Hey all, I’ve been surfing some local political blogs for some time now, and realized, other than some of the major media outlets in the SE Wisconsin area, that there is no real conservative voice in the Greater Milwaukee Area (at least not on the internet).

Of course that is not my only interest; I am also looking to post my opinions, like/dislikes, and general observations about things that ”trip my trigger”.  Specifically state, national, and global politics, along with sports, locally and nationally.

I certainly welcome any and all comments and will not “delete” anyones comments, especially those that disagree with me, as I relish the differing opinions of everyone that takes a concerted interest in my posts.

 Later,

 Sean
