Milwaukee Election 2008
Since it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything, and the race for Milwaukee Mayor, Supreme Court Justice, Milwaukee County Executive, Aldermen, and County Supervisors are coming up in a couple of days, I thought I’d throw my 2 cents in….. Now since I’m not SUPER interested in all of the elections, I’m only going to comment on the ones I find “compelling”, so here we go:
Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice
Mike Gableman v. Louis Butler
Louis Butler is terrible. Not terrible in a general sense, but out and out a bad judge. His “opinions” and history will tell you that he by no means will, or has been, a judge that 1) is tough on crime, and 2) will NOT legislate from the bench. Without doing anymore research than I have already done, one red flag pops up; that would be the RINGING endorsement of Lena Taylor for Louis Butler’s judgeship. If there was no other reason for voting for Gableman, that endorsement would have to be the lynch pin!!!
Milwaukee County Executive
Scott Walker vs Lena Taylor
This is the easiest and most important election, not only in Milwaukee County, but the state as a whole (I’ll expound later). The selection of the candidate is the easy part. If you want to hold the line on taxes, reduce spending, and set the stage for a REAL governor, you have to support and vote for Scott Walker. If you want Milwaukee to turn into Detroit, where violent crime, and gang violence grow exponentially year after year, and businesses leaving in droves, vote for Lena Taylor….I know which way I’m going. As for the long term consequences of Lena Taylor getting in to the County Executive seat…..if she gets in, that will be the last vestige of the “keeping the line on taxes” philosophy in Wisconsin. Every goofy tax and spend politician will have new life all around the state, and that will take Wisconsin from a tax hell, to a something worse (whatever that is).
District One Milwaukee Alderman
Now, this one does not effect me personally, nor do I really like one candidate over another, but the race itself is interesting. Ashanti Hamilton (the incumbent) seems to not particularily like competition. So much so, that his competitor, Orlando Owens had to call the police to break up a confrontation between the two. It was so heated that Alderman Hamilton was cited for disorderly conduct and issued a $175 fine. This tells me two things 1) politics and competition in that district is still in a state of disarray and an indictment on the area as a whole, and 2) Alderman Hamilton needs to check himself and act like a proper public servant and not emulate another terrible alderman, by the name of Michael McGee……
County Supervisor 15th District
Lynne DeBruin vs Dan Wycklendt
This one does effect me and it needs comment. Lynne has become lazy and needs to be replaced. The person to replace her is Dan Wycklendt. He is new, he is young, and he is a fiscal conservative. I personally have never met Ms. DeBruin, which wouldn’t be a big deal in a county the size of Milwaukee, but she’d MY SUPERVISOR!!!! Lynne has admitted several times (to placate everyone). “……says she’s voted both for and against County Executive Scott Walker’s no-tax-increase budgets.” Bottom line is if you do not hold the line on taxes in this county, and there is a candidate that will, vote for the one that keeps Milwaukee county from increasing our taxes carte blanche….Once and for all!
