Democratic Confidence
In my constant pursuit of information through weblogs and articles, related to the presidential race, I ran across the following yahoo article http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071024/pl_nm/usa_politics_democrats_dc asking the question, are the Democrats too confident when it comes to winning the presidency in 2008? It certainly is a valid question, in my opinion, simply because the candidates in the Democratic field are not nearly as strong as the liberals make them out to be.
The front runner, Hillary, has such a bad “likeablity” rating that it’s hard to think she’s a shoe-in, Barak is just plain unqualified to be the president (at this time), and John Edwards, well……he’s just a nut. The author of this article Jason Szep makes a good point, just because George Bush is in office does not mean that the Democrats are not going to have some competition, and I would contend some SERIOUS competition. The beautiful thing about politics, as mentioned in the article, is the only constant is change. Months are like weeks, and weeks are like days.
Don’t blink your eyes kids, and don’t be discouraged by the media bombardment of Hillary, because although the primaries come in about 2-3 months, the real fight will be February to November. The fun’s just about to begin.
Republican Stupidity
Amazing….for the last 5-6 months I have been keeping tabs on the 2008 Presidential race (impossible not to, considering we’re bombarded with it everyday), and since I cannot see myself ever voting for someone the likes of Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, or John Edwards, my focus is on the Republican group. I, like many conservatives, began looking at the field of Giuliani, Romney, Tommy Thompson, McCain, and others in the early stages of the race (too early, if you ask me, but I digress). It was in March or April of this year – 2007 – that I dug a little deeper, and paid closer attention to “other” candidates that were surfacing. Why you ask? Well quite honestly I, and many other conservatives were somewhat dissatisfied with group of candidates coming into the summer of 2007.
Now that the field has been whittled down to 4 (maybe 5 if you include Ron Paul – which I don’t) candidates, we can all take our positions and ride the campaign wave to the primaries. Oh…..if that was true. If you’re not aware, there are large segments of the republican base that are, at best, undecided. Those reading this weblog may be in that camp, and if so, I will ask, WHY???? Rudy’s track record of conservativism is “rocky”, McCain’s wishy-washy, Mitt’s a Mormon, or Thompson’s boring and got in to late?!?!? COME ON PEOPLE, we have to get over this, especially those of you on the preverbal religious right.
It’s gotten so bad, that, recently, there have been rumblings in the conservative Christian base of the party, that if Rudy ends up getting the nomination that they are going to put up a third party candidate. No offense to you evangelical’s, but that is STUPID. Not mildly stupid, not totally stupid, but galactically stupid! Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a Rudy supporter, but I will take a pro-gun control, pro-abortion, fiscal & military conservative candidate (like Rudy) over the borderline socialists Hillary, Barak, or Edwards, wouldn’t you? If you said YES, than get on the phone and/or computer, and tell your friends or whoever else listens to you and have them get out there and support a current candidate. If you said no, you and those like you, will have, by proxy, put either Hillary or Barak in office.
As for whom I am supporting, well, look for more on my guy, Fred Thompson. I believe he is the closest thing to a conservative, that most, if not all Republicans are looking for. Nothing against Mitt, Rudy, or John, but if you are looking for a “Reagan Republican” you’ve found one in Thompson. See link: http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/Fred_Thompson.htm We as a party, but more importantly, as a country, need to get back to conservative values, and ideologies. I am a supporter of George Bush on many issues, but for whatever reason (war on terror, negative publicity, and the like) he has lost his way. He has spent A LOT of money in his tenure, basically going against the fiscal conservative he ran on in 1999, 2000, and 2003.
Come on people, we should not just get out there and support the Republican candidates that are out there, but, now more than ever, we need to support them with assertiveness!!! This isn’t a plea, it’s a requisite.
First Weblog – Intro
Hey all, I’ve been surfing some local political blogs for some time now, and realized, other than some of the major media outlets in the SE Wisconsin area, that there is no real conservative voice in the Greater Milwaukee Area (at least not on the internet).
Of course that is not my only interest; I am also looking to post my opinions, like/dislikes, and general observations about things that ”trip my trigger”. Specifically state, national, and global politics, along with sports, locally and nationally.
I certainly welcome any and all comments and will not “delete” anyones comments, especially those that disagree with me, as I relish the differing opinions of everyone that takes a concerted interest in my posts.
Later,
Sean
